For new believers

You said yes to Jesus. Now what?

Welcome to the family — for real. The next steps are simpler than the jargon makes them sound: talk to God plainly, read a little about Jesus, find some people, and give yourself the same grace God already gave you.

How do I start reading the Bible?

Do not start at page one. Start with the Gospel of John — a short, firsthand account of Jesus written so that readers could know Him. One chapter a day takes ten minutes. When you finish, try the book of Philippians for how to actually live this out.

Reading plans in free apps like YouVersion can pace it for you. You will hit confusing parts; everyone does. Note the questions and keep moving — confusion is a normal part of reading a library written across centuries, not a sign you are failing.

How do I pray if I have never prayed?

Talk to God the way you would talk to someone who already knows everything about you and loves you anyway — because that is who is listening. No script, no special vocabulary, no posture requirements. Honesty is the entire technique.

Stuck for words? Try three sentences: thank God for one thing, tell Him one thing that is heavy, ask Him for help with one thing. Jesus also left a template — the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 — when you want somewhere to stand.

What if I mess up?

You will — and grace was designed for exactly that moment. Becoming a Christian does not mean you stop struggling; it means your struggles no longer define you. When you fall, you tell God honestly, you get up, and you keep walking. That is the whole rhythm.

Watch out for the voice that says you have already blown it. That voice is not God’s. The Christian life is not a streak you can break; it is a relationship that holds. Find a church community — walking with people makes getting up easier. Our church finder can help.

Common questions

What Bible translation should I use?

A readable one. The NIV, NLT, or ESV are all solid, modern-language translations. The best Bible is the one you will actually open — and free apps like YouVersion let you compare them instantly.

Do I need to be baptized right away?

Baptism is a meaningful public step, but there is no stopwatch running. Talk with a pastor at a local church about what it means and when it makes sense for you.

How fast am I supposed to change?

Slower than you think, and that is by design. Faith is a lifelong walk, not a personality transplant performed overnight. God is far more patient with you than you are with yourself.
